How durable is granite?
Granite is extremely durable. It is one of the hardest stones and its polish is achieved through the use of diamonds. As the hardest stone for use as a countertop, granite is highly scratch resistant. Technically granite can serve as a cutting surface, however it will quickly dull expensive knives. It is generally recommended to use a cutting board.
Is granite heat resistant?
Granite is primarily composed of quartz and feldspar that possess the same physical qualities as glass cookware. No worries - hot pots, pans and casserole dishes are not a problem for granite.
Is granite stain resistant?
By nature granite is a very dense stone. Once the stone is polished, the surface becomes almost completely impervious to liquids. As an extra measure of precaution, every Atlantic Custom Granite & Marble countertop is treated with impregnating silicone sealer to essentially wax the surface, creating a liquid repellant surface.
Will I have a large selection of granite colors to choose from?
Granite is available in a surprisingly large pallete of colors and patterns. Visit our showroom and slab yard for a limitless selection, or browse some of our selection here.
How difficult is the care and maintenance of granite?
Granite care and maintenance is very simple. Every six to twelve months, apply impregnator sealer and wipe off (no more effort than cleaning a window with glass cleaner). Instructions and granite sealer are complimentary with every Atlantic Custom Granite & Marble installation.
How do I clean my granite countertop?
For daily cleaning of your countertop, simply wipe with a soft cloth or paper towel with soapy water or a diluted solution of Simple Green. Avoid using ammonia based cleaners routinely on granite. Neutral pH cleaner is the key to lifelong luster and shine.
